Risedale School will open its doors to prospective pupils and their families next week for its annual open evening.

The Catterick Garrison school is inviting Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, along with their parents and carers, to visit on Wednesday, September 30.

The event will run from 6pm until 7.30pm and will give families the opportunity to tour the school, meet teachers and current pupils and take part in activities across different departments.

Headteacher Lucy Greenwood will give a welcome talk in the main school hall at 6.10pm.

The open evening follows a successful summer for Risedale, which recorded its second successive year of improved GCSE results and its best overall pass rate since 2022.

The number of pupils achieving Grade 5 or above in both English and maths more than doubled, while the school also reported strong performances in subjects including art, design technology, drama, engineering, sports studies and textiles.

Visitors to the open evening will be able to explore facilities including the school’s photography studio, 3D printers, computerised laser cutters and digital embroidery equipment.

Members of Risedale’s pastoral support network will also be available to speak to families, including its Pupil Support Managers, SEND Team and Service Pupil Manager.

Mrs Greenwood said: “Choosing a secondary school is a huge step for any child, and our Open Evening is designed to give families a true feel for our unique culture and energy.

“We pride ourselves on being known as the ‘Risedale Family’ where every single pupil is supported to be the best version of themselves.

“We want prospective pupils to step inside, get involved in the activities, feel that sense of belonging, and picture their future here.”

The headteacher said the school’s aim was to support pupils whether their strengths lay in academic or vocational subjects.

She added: “Our goal is to inspire them, build their confidence, and help them achieve great things. We can’t wait to welcome our prospective pupils and show them what makes Risedale so special.”

Families who are unable to attend on the night can arrange an individual visit during a standard school day by contacting the main office at 01748 833501 or emailing enquiries@risedale.org.uk.
