Year 7 students from Risedale Sports & Community College were invited to attend the official unveiling of the route for the Tour de Yorkshire.

The students travelled to Piece Hall in Halifax for the ceremony and had their photograph taken wearing t-shirts spelling out the word Richmond as Stage 3, taking place on Saturday 5th May, will begin in Richmond and end at Scarborough.

The peloton will roll out of Richmond taking in some of Yorkshire’s finest market towns and on its way will pass through Catterick Garrison, on to Leyburn and then travel east, finishing at the coast in Scarborough.

Stage 4 will then take in more of Richmondshire passing through Coverdale and into Middleham, before the cyclists head for Masham and the finish in Leeds.

Risedale associate assistant principal Jane Hailwood said: “It was such an honour for our students to be asked to represent the Richmond area for the official route announcement of the Tour de Yorkshire 2018.

“We’re so excited that the cyclists will actually be riding through the Garrison. We can’t wait!”

At the press conference Mrs Hailwood was able to take a few snaps of British Professional cyclist Mark Cavendish MBE, who it is hoped will take part in the race.
