Rishi Sunak visits church hub to watch puppet show

Rishi Sunak visited Brompton-on-Swale to watch a puppet performance by local children.

Mr Sunak was welcomed to St Paul’s Church Hub by Rev Simon Dowson and joined an audience of family members, churchgoers, and local residents to enjoy the final performance.

The Richmond and Northallerton MP congratulated the children on their efforts and presented each of them with a certificate to mark their achievement.

Mr Sunak said: “It was a real pleasure to visit St Paul’s Church and watch such a joyful and creative performance.

“The enthusiasm and confidence shown by the children was fantastic, and it’s clear how much they’ve gained from taking part”.

“I want to thank everyone at the church for the work they’ve put into making it happen.”

The performance was the result of workshops hosted by the parish church.

Twelve young people took part in the project which brought together children connected to the church and local schools.

Over two mornings, they worked with volunteers at St Paul’s Hub to rehearse a routine.

Rev Simon Dowson said: “For a number of years, the parish church in Brompton on Swale has hosted a puppet workshop for local children three times a year.

“The young people come for two mornings to our newly refurbished hall, known as St Paul’s Hub, to learn the latest routine, followed by a performance in front of family, church, and community members and it is always well received.

“This summer’s performance was to a song called Don’t Stop Praising and we were delighted to welcome our MP, Rishi Sunak, to watch the children and hand out certificates to them. He loved the show!”
