Road reopens after serious collision

A pedestrian has died in a collision in Leyburn.

Police were called to reports of an incident on the A684 Harmby Road, near St Matthew’s Church at 12.20am this morning.

The incident involved a white milk tanker and a pedestrian on the eastbound side of the road.

Sadly, the pedestrian, a local man who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at scene.

The road was closed for several hours to allow police to carry out investigation work at the scene of the incident.

he road was reopened to the public just before 8am this morning.

Police say the tanker driver is assisting police with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the pedestrian, milk tanker and or any other vehicle travelling along Harmby Road between midnight and 12.20am to come forward.

Any witnesses with dash cam footage are asked to save the footage, and contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 select option 2 and ask for PC Nicola Gill.
