More than £3,000 has been raised for charities after golfers and businesses came together for this year’s Richmond Rotary Club Golf Day.
The annual event, held at Richmond Golf Club, saw 18 teams from local companies, golf clubs and Rotary groups compete in sunny conditions on the club’s course.
Organised by Richmond Rotary Club, the event is one of the club’s main fundraising activities each year, supporting a range of charitable causes across the region.
The first prize was won by David J Olney’s team, while the Sherwood Cup for the best Rotary team went to the home side from Richmond Rotary Club, who also claimed the Walter Hepworth Memorial Cup.
Colin Chitty, the main organiser of the event, thanked participants, volunteers and sponsors for their continued support.
He said: “It was great that we were able to organise the Golf Day again this year and I am grateful to all my Rotary colleagues for their assistance.
“Without the continuing support of participants, the event would not be possible, and it is good that such an enjoyable day ultimately benefits so many people.”
Funds were raised through team entry fees, a tombola and refreshments, many of which were provided by Rotary members and their families.
Mr Chitty added: “We remain especially grateful to everyone at Richmond Golf Club for their continuing support for our Rotary event at their superb golf course.”
John Morton said the money raised would support several charities and community organisations.
He said: “Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved we were able to raise over £3,000 again this year.
“This will support some really good causes including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Alzheimer’s Society, The Storehouse Foodbank in Richmond and St Theresa’s Hospice.
“We hope that next year we shall be able to repeat what was clearly a hugely successful day.”
