Richmondshire Rugby Club is this year running the Father Christmas float around Richmond.

The float will work its way across Richmond on Saturday, December 23, starting at around 4pm in the Reeth Road area working its away around the town to finish down St Nicolas Drive at around 8.30pm.

The float is normally organised by Richmond Round Table.

Jonathan Moulding, from the rugby club, said: “In recognition of the huge amount of work that Richmond Round Table do for the residents of Richmond at this time of year, a group of rugby club members have offered to give them a year off and have gotten together to organise Santa making a personal appearance on his sleigh in Richmond.

“Santa will travel around most of the housing estates of Richmond supported by the members of Richmondshire Rugby Club.

“Santa will be giving out a few sweets to the children along the way and taking present requests.”
