Runners visit Reeth for latest DalesRunner event

150 runners visited Reeth today to complete in the second DalesRunner 20km and Fremington Frenzy trail running events.

Organisers say that despite challenging muddy conditions and high winds, the runners completed the 20km or 12km courses with big smiles on their faces.

A range of cakes were provided at the finish by Two Dales Bakery in Reeth for all competitors.

Jess Young, from DalesRunner, said: “We had a fantastic day at our DalesRunner 20km and Fremington Frenzy event.

“The competitors showed amazing spirit which gave the day a great atmosphere.

“We are extremely grateful to the landowners and estates for giving us permission to hold the event.”

Profits from sales of the event neck tube and competitor donations raised £125 for Swaledale Mountain Rescue.

Competitors were encouraged to car share through a car share raffle. Organisers say 35 per cent per cent of the competitors shared a lift, saving 52 car journeys on the day.

Competitor, Peter Butler from Richmond said “This is a fantastic low key event. Is a great introduction to hill / fell racing. It’s technical and tough but at the same time more than manageable. Just a great event.”

The next event in the series is on July 20 in Muker.

Entries for future events are available via the DalesRunner website at

DalesRunner also provide guided running and walking in the Swaledale area.
