The generosity of a family-run business has helped to raise £1,500 for a local hospice care charity.

Sam Turner & Sons recently held its annual Sammie’s Sunday Fun-Day, with all the funds raised supporting Herriot Hospice Homecare.

There was lots for families to see and do in the grounds of the popular Northallerton store, including farm animals, face-painting, inflatables, climbing wall, trampolining, ferret racing, birds of prey and reptile show.

There was also plenty of food and refreshments, including a hog roast, pizza shed and Yorkshire Dales ice cream.

Raffle prizes featured a lawnmower, strimmer, bird table, a Gruffalo carving and a mug signed by the Yorkshire Vet, Peter Wright, who also dropped in to join the fun.

Herriot Assistant Fundraiser Paula Moore said: “Sam Turner & Sons are long-standing supporters of Herriot Hospice Homecare and their continued we are exceptionally for their continued generosity and dedication to the charity.”

“The fantastic fundraising totally from the fun day will help us provide more care and support to local families affected by terminal illness and bereavement across Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Charlie Turner, one of the directors at Sam Turner & Sons, said: “My grand-mother received end of life care from Herriot Hospice Homecare so this is one of the many reasons we have always been pleased to support the charity.

“The total of £1,500 raised in the fun day is great and we would like to thank everyone who attended, donated prizes or bought a raffle ticket.”

Sam Turner & Sons are one of the founding members of Herriot’s 1992 Club, a corporate fundraising initiative set up to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary in 2017.

1992 members are committed to donating or raising £1,992 for the charity during its anniversary year, and with the fun day and initiatives such as the Great North Run, Sam Turner & Sons have almost raised this target, with the current fundraising figure standing at £1,857.

Herriot Hospice Homecare is inviting other local and regional companies to join this prestigious group and forge a valuable partnership with their local hospice. For more information, contact the Herriot Hospice Homecare fundraising team on (01609) 777 413 or email
