Scenic Dales bus service to resume for summer season

A scenic Sunday bus service that connects Teesside with the Yorkshire Dales is to resume.

Northern DalesBus 831 travels between Middlesbrough, Stockton on Tees, and Darlington, and Kirby Lonsdale, pasing through Richmond, Swaledale, Hawes and Ingleton.

It runs every Sunday and Bank Holiday during the summer from this weekend.

The service is managed by Dales and Bowland Community Interest Company (CIC), part of Friends of the Dales, with financial support from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and local fundraising.

A spokesperson for the CIC said: “With unspoilt wilderness, wildflower meadows, heather moorland, caves and waterfalls, limestone scenery, long distance footpaths, classic views of the Three Peaks and Ribblehead Viaduct as well as shops, cafes and pubs dotted along the route – there is something for everyone to see and do.”

The service departs Middlesbrough Bus Station at 0920, Stockton High St at 0932, Darlington Town Hall at 1000, Richmond Market Place at 1030, arriving at Hawes Market Place at 1205.

After a short break, the service departs Hawes at 1230 for Ribblehead and Ingleton, arriving in Kirkby Lonsdale at 1323.

The return service will depart Kirkby Lonsdale at 1530 arriving back in Hawes at 1630.

After a short break, the service will depart from the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes at 1650 for the return journey via Swaledale and arriving in Richmond at 1800 and Middlesbrough Bus Station at 1910.

Dales Rover tickets offer a day’s unlimited Sunday and Bank Holiday travel – £10 for Adults and £18 for Groups (up to 2 adults and 3 children traveling together).

Elderly and disabled concessionary bus passes are not valid for free travel on Northern DalesBus 831 on journeys starting in Lancashire, Cumbria or North Yorkshire.

Where this applies then concessionary passholders may travel at standard adult fares, with a maximum single fare of £3, or alternatively they may purchase a £5 Dales Privilege Rover for a day’s travel.
