Heavy snow has created hazardous driving conditions on roads across Richmondshire.

Police in the district are urged drivers not to travel unless absolutely necessary

This morning, vehicles coming into Richmond from Scotch Corner got stuck on the hill out of Skeeby.

A lorry also got stuck on the hill out of Bellerby towards Richmond.

Numerous other roads are covered in thick snow, which has continued falling through the day.

Police have urged drivers to take care and only travel if absolutely necessary.

A spokesperson for the Leyburn and the Dales Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Heavy snow continuing to fall across the area – please do not travel unless absolutely essential.

“Don’t strain the emergency services further – Stay Home, Save Lives.”

Schools have closed today to the children of keyworkers because of the conditions .

  1. Surely the roads through Richmond to Scotch Corner via Skeeby and to the motorway via Brompton on Swale are priority roads, they have not been gritted at all

A @metoffice yellow #weatherwarning for #snow and #ice in #NorthYorkshire is in place until 9pm today. We have gritted priority roads. Please only travel if essential and take extra care.
