Scorton man told to expect jail after downloading indecent images of children

York Magistrates' Court.

A 59-year-old man has been told to expect jail after he admitted to downloading more than 2,000 indecent images of children.

David Boon, of Cleveland Road, Scorton, appeared at Teesside Crown Court today when he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, two counts of distributing illicit images and one count of possessing prohibited or cartoon images of children.

Among Boon’s sordid collection were 591 photos rated Category A – the worst kind of such material involving the sexual abuse of children.

He also downloaded 668 Category B images and 956 Category C photos. He was also found in possession of 81 prohibited images of children.

He admitted distributing 10 indecent images, three of which were Category A.

Defence barrister David Ward said that Boon had only one previous conviction for a dissimilar matter dating back to the late 1970s.

Judge Jonathan Carroll adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report which would allow the Probation Service time to assess Boon’s risk level.

Boon was released on bail on condition that he made all his electronic devices available for inspection by police and did not delete his internet search history.

The judge told him he would have to sign on the sex offenders register within three days and warned him: “I’m making you no promises (and) I’m giving you no indications (as to sentence).

“All options remain open and custody remains likely given the number of Category A images in this case.”

Boon will be sentenced on September 5.
