A long-serving nurse at a Richmondshire care home has been recognised for her dedication and compassion after being named Nurse of the Year.
Nancy Garcia, from Maple Lodge Care Home, in Scotton, received the accolade at the Highgate Care awards, which celebrate excellence across the organisation.
The award recognises nurses who go above and beyond to provide outstanding care, with Nancy praised for her professionalism and commitment to residents.
She was nominated by colleagues, including home manager Dawn McIntosh, who described her as an “exceptional nurse”.
She said: “Nancy is an exceptional nurse whose dedication, compassion and professionalism shine through in everything she does. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure our residents receive the highest standard of care, particularly during the night shifts where her calm and reassuring presence makes a real difference.”
Nancy has worked at Maple Lodge since May 2000, building strong relationships with residents, their families and colleagues over more than two decades.
Originally from the Philippines, she has become a well-respected figure in the local community after settling in Catterick Garrison with her family.
Her contribution to the home was described as vital in maintaining high standards of care, with colleagues highlighting her kindness, resilience and experience.
Nancy was presented with her award by Joanne Fogg, managing director of Highgate Care, at a ceremony attended by staff from across the organisation.
She was supported on the night by colleagues including Dawn McIntosh and fellow shortlisted nominee Kirsty Kirkham.
Staff at Maple Lodge said the award was richly deserved and a reflection of Nancy’s many years of hard work and dedication.
