A search to find an 80-year-old hiker missing in the Yorkshire Dales is continuing this morning.
Harry Harvey, 80, was reported missing at around 1.30pm on Sunday in the Gunnerside area of Swaledale.
It is believed the walker is somewhere between Gunnerside Gill and the Tan Hill in Arkengarthdale.
A major search was launched on Sunday afternoon and continued into the night.
Police have been assisted by volunteers from Swaledale Mountain Rescue Teams and other groups from around the region, including RAF Leeming’s Mountain Rescue Team.
The police helicopter has also been used.
Local policing Inspector Mark Gee, said: “We are extremely concerned for Mr Harvey’s welfare. Despite being an experienced walker, Harry has been missing for a long time now, in wet conditions and cold wind.
“We are appealing for residents and workers in the area to check outbuildings, sheds and barns, as he may have taken shelter in there.
“Harry was carrying all of his camping equipment with him, so we are also appealing to anyone who has seen a discarded tent or hiking gear to get in touch.”
