The lakeside service at Semerwater, now a regular feature of the bank holiday weekend in Raydale, took place on Sunday in bright sunshine and with a good congregation, despite competing events nearby: most notably the Askrigg and District produce show and the Bainbridge and District Motor Club meeting on the village green.

Led by the Revd Dave Clark, vicar of the Upper Wensleydale Benefice, the emphasis at the lakeside service was on the unique gifts and personalities of every individual and the value of all of them to God.

Stones of varying shapes and sizes were symbolic, said Mr Clark, of the different but complementary characteristics of all human beings and worshippers were asked to think about their own gifts and write them on the stones they had gathered.
