Sheep rescues itself before crews arrive at Bolton Abbey

Fire crews were called to Bolton Abbey on Saturday morning following reports of a sheep stuck on the side of a river bank.

The incident was reported at 11.40am, with crews from Skipton and Ripon, both equipped with swift water rescue capabilities, mobilised to the scene.

However, as firefighters approached, the sheep jumped into the river, swam across and climbed out on the opposite bank without assistance. The animal was uninjured and required no further help.

No action was needed by fire crews, who then stood down.
