Shop issues CCTV image and promises reward after early morning burglary

A shop has issued a CCTV image of a suspect after they were burgled early this morning.

Brompton-on-Swale Village Shop has also offered a reward for information that leads to an arrest.

The break-in occurred at about 3.30am on Monday.

The offender forced entry to the premises and took a large quantity of cigarettes and cash, making off from the scene towards the A6055.

Police say officers are currently at the scene completing CCTV enquires and identifying any forensic opportunities.

A spokesperon for North Yorkashire Police said: “We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“In particular, we are appealing for information, CCTV, or dashcam which may assist in identifying the offender.”

The suspect was described as a male wearing a black puffer style coat, dark Nike jogging bottoms, light coloured shoes, gloves, and a balaclava.

The shop said a post online: “The police have been informed but don’t have much to go on as he was wearing a balaclava.

“If anyone on Richmond road has a ring door bell or external CCTV along Richmond Road we’d very much appreciate it if you could check to see if this person is at all visible and on it.”
