The owner of a new Richmond shop says he was inspired to open the premises after visiting the town and feeling it had the right ambience for his business.
Strolling 4 Shoes was established in 2005 by Andrew and Sue Marshall in the Lake District, with the aim of offering colourful, casual and comfortable footwear for both women and men.
Over the years the business expanded into larger premises in Cockermouth and Penrith.
In addition, it now has a fully transactional website www.strolling4shoes.co.uk where all stock is available for delivery.
At the start of 2023, Andrew and Sue’s son, Fraser, took charge of the business, introducing new brands and creating a more modern feel to the shops.
In a further development, the business has been awarded the Drapers Independent Footwear Retailer of the Year for 2023.
Fraser said: “As I live in Yorkshire, I am keen to expand the business in this county. Having visited Richmond on a number of occasions, I felt that the ambience of the town perfectly suited Strolling 4 Shoes – a small market town, with a lovely market square, and more independent retailers than high street shops.”
The shop opened at 18 Market Place at the beginning of March offering women’s and men’s footwear from brands including Rieker, Josef Seibel, Birkenstock, Skechers and FLY London.
Fraser said that the collection had been well received by locals and visitors since the opening.
He added that the new autumn winter range was starting to arrive, offering men’s and women’s shoes and boots with prices ranging from £50 to £150. The shop is open seven days a week, where staff are always on hand to give advice on the products, so why not pop in and say hello anytime.
