Skeeby villagers hold pop-up event as pub purchase plans take shape

Villagers celebrate outside the Travellers Rest.

A pop-up event will take place in Skeeby this weekend as plans to purchase the village up take shape.

Local residents have reached agreement with the owner of the Travellers Rest to purchase the premises.

The Skeeby Community Pub Society Ltd (SCPS) has launched a fundraising campaign to raise money to buy the pub and carryout the renovation work so that it can be reopened.

So far £218,000 has been raised in grants and  pledges. Villagers have set a target of £275,000.

This weekend, the public can find out more about the plans at a pop-up event taking place outside the pub.

The event will be officially opened by Richmondshire District Council chairman Clive World at 11am.

It will then run from 11am to 4pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

Kay Richardson, from SCPS, said: “It’s the first time in a long time that the SCPS have been able to hold a public get together and it’s an opportunity for anyone to stop by for a chat, to discuss the proposals for the pub and meet with fellow supporters.

“We’ll even have complementary beer and refreshments from Richmond Brewing Company.”
