A Richmond slimmer is a Woman of the Year Award regional final winner.
Company director Linda Swabey, 62, got the recognition from Slimming World after achieving her target weight loss of more than 6st.
Linda, who attends the Richmond Slimming World group, achieved the target despite battling personal tragedy, losing her daughter Anna to a brain tumour in 2016.
This story continues after the adverts:
It was Anna who convinced her mum to attend Slimming World.
Anna, from Newton Aycliffe, started fundraising for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign before her death.
And Linda says the weight loss has helped her to keep the fundraising going.
She said: “It has given me the confidence to keep Anna’s legacy alive by continuing her campaign to fund research into her cancer.
“To date, we’ve raised £175,000 for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign.
“Carrying on her work I’m part of a group that lobbies Parliament for more research and funding.
“I have no doubt how proud Anna would be of her new, more confident mum.”
Linda story has featured in the national Slimming World Magazine this month.
Charis, who runs the Richmond Slimming World group, said Linda was an amazing inspiration.
“Linda was invited to head office to represent the North East towards the end of last year but again suffered personal trauma and lost the sight in her right eye.
“Yet she never gave up both fund raising for Anna and inspiring out Richmond groups.”
