Firefighters were called to a commercial premises in Catterick Garrison after smoke was seen coming from a unit on Richmondshire Way.
A crew from Richmond Fire Station attended the incident at 7.11pm on Wednesday.
On arrival, crews discovered the smoke had been caused by a piece of machinery which had been left running.
Firefighters isolated the electrics to make the scene safe before leaving the incident with a responsible person.
