Snow forecast to fall on Richmondshire this afternoon

Motorists have been urged to take care today with snow forecast to arrive in Richmondshire this afternoon.

Up to 5cm of snow could fall on higher ground with a mixture of sleet and snow predicted on lower areas.

The snow is forecast to arrive from 1pm onwards in the east of the district and arrive in all areas by 3pm.

The snow and sleet is forecast to continue falling until Friday morning before it turns to rain in some areas.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for much of the east of the country today, including Yorkshire.

The Met Office says: “Icy patches are likely to develop on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths or where showers cause wash off on treated roads.

“Wintry showers will bring an additional hazard and may lead to 2 to 5 cm of snow accumulating on ground above 100 m, primarily over northern Scotland and North East England.
