McGarry & Co Solicitors have opened their second Darlington office and employed four new solicitors to aid the practice’s expansion.

The firm which has offices in Leyburn and Hawes says the opening of an offices at 53 Coniscliffe Road, Darlington, complements their existing premises at the town’s auction mart and is a return home for the practice’s senior partner, Michael McGarry, who began his career in the same premises in 1988 with Darling, Heslop and Foster.

The move follows McGarry’s acquisition of the Spencer Davies legal practice at Grassington last year and is now the seventh office for the practice.

The opening coincides with several new appointments which has seen Claire Haigh and Vicky Johnson join the firm from another Barnard Castle practice.

Claire brings over 20 years of experience in legal practice, particularly in the fields of residential and commercial property law, as well as Wills and probate.

Vicky, who qualified with a prestigious first class honours degree from Durham University in 2001, brings extensive experience in her specialist areas of wills, probate and lasting powers of attorney, as well as residential conveyancing.

Vicky said: “It’s a thrilling move for me.

“I’d always admired the reputation that McGarry & Co has earned and love their traditional values and work ethos of putting clients first. I am also looking forward to the challenge and excitement of opening the new Darlington office.”

Michael McGarry added: “I’m delighted to be able to open the new Darlington office at Coniscliffe Road and welcome our new colleagues to the practice – they will be well supported and part of our growing but friendly team.

“It’s obviously a very exciting time for us with new staff and new offices throughout the region.

“We now have 12 lawyers with just over 20 support and administration team members who have played, and continue to play, such a vital part in our success.

“The Darlington expansion, whilst taking McGarry & Co out of our traditional heartland, brings me back to what is essentially my hometown and the place where I started my professional career those 35 years ago as a wet behind-the-ears 16 year old.

“Importantly, this comes at a perfect time when Darlington is starting to boom with the Bank Top Railway Station upgrade, new residential development in and around the town, the partial relocation of the Treasury and other supporting government offices.”
