Richmond Motor Club was pleased to welcome 250 riders back to the annual Reeth 3 Day Trial – held from Friday, July 18 through to Sunday, July 20.
One of the biggest events on the club’s calendar, the trial saw riders from near and far congregate in Reeth for a weekend of riding, socialising and good craic.
RMC once again ran The Last Section Bar in the Start Field, offering low-cost drinks to riders and spectators across all three days, allowing riders and their families to relax with a cheap pint of local ale while reviewing the scores of the day.
Despite the warm and dry weather in the weeks leading up to the event, the forecast did not look good for the weekend. The rain held off on Friday, with the sun making an appearance mid-afternoon, making for warm and humid riding conditions.
On Saturday afternoon, riders were subjected to some heavy rain showers, but it was Sunday afternoon as the riders were returning back to the Start Field when the proper rain started, followed by several loud claps of thunder.
The weekend was kicked off on Friday morning with riders signing on from 8am in the Secretary’s Tent, collecting their ‘goodie bag’ with their number board for the weekend, as well as their souvenir shirt and programme. The first two riders were away at 10am, continuing in pairs in 30-second intervals until the back markers headed off to collect the flags for each day.
Friday saw Darren Fowler and team take the riders out of the Woodyard Start Field and up around Hurst and Marrick, nearing some famous Scott Trial and Mintex ground.
This year, Richmond Motor Club was pleased to welcome the recently retired World Class rider Adam Raga all the way from Spain.
After coming second at the Scottish Six Days Trial in May this year, Raga was keen to return to the UK and enjoy a weekend of good riding and socialising. Raga (Sherco) led the Hard Course on Friday, with an impressive 0 marks lost on observation.
2024 Scott Trial winner Jack Price (Sherco) had a slack dab on section 28, putting him in second position for the day.
2024 Reeth 3 Day Trial winner Harry Turner (Sherco) also had a slack dab earlier in the day, making him third overall on Friday.
Local lad Richard Sadler (Vertigo) wasn’t far behind the top three, only losing 4 marks over the 30 sections.
Saturday’s route was marked out by Paul Astwood and his team, who took the riders up into Arkengarthdale. Nobody managed to go clean across the 35 sections today, with Raga having a 5 on section 30 and both Turner and Price having a handful of dabs each.
Nigel Cummins and team marked out the final day’s route, heading up Swaledale. At the end of the day, the final scores were totted up and the awards were presented on Sunday evening in the Start Field.
After remaining at the top of the leaderboard all weekend, Adam Raga (Sherco) was pleased to be presented with the Cliff Addison Memorial Trophy sponsored by Nathan Stones of NLS Contracts as the overall winner of the trial.
Raga lost a total of 13 marks over the weekend and was also awarded the Leigh Jepson Memorial Award for the best first timer on the Hard Course.
2024 winner Harry Turner (Sherco) and 2024 Scott Trial winner Jack Price (Sherco) both finished the weekend on 25 marks lost, with Turner just clinching second place with most cleans.
Price finished in third place overall, leaving the Sherco Team very pleased with a full podium.
On the Clubman A Course, Richard Timperley (Vertigo) maintained his title and took the win once again, with low scores across the board, giving him a total of 18 marks lost. Matthew Maynard (Sherco) finished in second place with 31 marks lost, followed by Richard Fraser (Sherco) on 54 marks lost.
The Clubman B Course was again won by Anthony Stephen (Beta) on 40 marks lost. John Bannister (Vertigo) led the Over 40s Class with 31 marks lost, and Adrian Harrison (Sherco) led the Over 50s Class with 59 marks lost. Stephen Larkin (Triumph) won the Twinshock Class with 98 marks lost.
Richard Ridley (Montesa) was once again awarded the Harkers Coaches Shield for the best performance by a local rider on the Clubman Course. Emma Bristow (Sherco) was awarded the Peter Young Trophy for the best performance by a lady rider.
