More than a hundred students performed in Richmond School and Sixth Form’s Christmas concert.
All year groups took part, with musical genres to suit every taste with the school’s jazz band, choir, concert cand and symphony orchestra getting involved.
There were also a number of soloists and smaller groups.
The concert also featured a surprise announcement that the choir had won the chance to perform with the acclaimed Collabro choir, former winners of Briatin’s Got Talent, at the Sage in Gateshead in March.
The choir was selected after Stephen Boyd, lead teacher for Music, had entered a competition by sending a video of the students performing.
The choir will spend the day of the concert in rehearsals with Collabro, as well as having time to relax with the group and ask questions, take selfies and get autographs.
Mr Boyd said: ”We are so excited to announce that Richmond School choir will be performing at the Sage with Collabro, who shot to fame after winning BGT 2014.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to rehearse and perform with these acclaimed artists.”
Catherine Brooker, chief executive officer of the Areté Learning Trust, said: “It was a wonderful concert.
“It was certainly a fabulous showcase for the students’ talents but perhaps even more importantly, embodied such a warm, inclusive and inspirational atmosphere.
“It was a privilege to be part of it.’”
The school’s Carol Service will be held tonight (Thursday) at St Mary’s Church at 6pm.
Everyone is welcome.
