Sports pavilion destroyed by fire in Hipswell

A sports pavilion has been completely destroyed by fire in a suspected arson attack on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place in Hispwell Road, Hipswell.

The pavilion is on Risedale College’s playing fields, known as the Jaffa.

Richmond and Colburn crews were called at 4.21pm.

On arrival they confirmed a single storey wooden building measuring 20m by 10m was well alight.

They requested support from three further appliances.

These appliances were mobilised from Leyburn, Bedale and Hawes.

It is understood police have launched an investigation and at least one young person has been spoken to in connection with the incident.
