Haze the springer spaniel accompanied his owner on her final journey today.

The ten-year-old dog accompanied the hearse carrying Richmond dog-lover Mary Hutchinson, who passed away on February 11, aged 79.

Mary’s family say the dog who still searches for her every day.

The dog lover, who lived at Station Cottages with husband Len, had a small holding besides the River Swale, and was well-known in the town as a breeder and keeper of springer spaniels.

Due to Mary falling ill and then convalescing at Scorton Care Village, Haze had not seen his owner for several months.

Haze has been looked after by Mary’s husband Len and family.

Mary’s family decided Haze should accompany his owner one last time as part of the funeral procession, walking from The Station to nearby St Mary’s Church ahead of the service.

The route is one the pair would have walked many times together.
