The committee of Leyburn Community Leisure and Squash Club are hoping to buy the building to secure its future for the community.
The building is currently owned by a third party who is wanting to sell it.
The club has been invited to put an application into the Community Ownership Fund which helps local communities save local assets which might otherwise be lost.
Richard Sanderson, from the committee, said: “We intend to raise the money with a combination of COF funding, private loans and a commercial loan.
“The current members committee has been running the club successfully since 2016 and have a strong business plan to secure the club and take it forward.”
Richard added: “The club has been running for over 40 years and we would dearly like to save it and secure its future for the local area.
“They are the only publicly accessible squash courts in the whole of Richmondshire.”
The club currently has around 200 members for both squash and fitness.
There will be a public meeting at the club in Grove Square, Leyburn, DL8 5AE on Tuesday, April 11 at 7pm.
Richard added: “We would like members of the community to come along and show their support for the club and our aims to buy it.
“If we are successful it would be put into a trust to secure it for future generations. Please come along and support us.”
