Star Radio saved from closure

Darlington-based Star Radio – which serves Richmond, Catterick and the Dales – has been saved from closure.

Owner UKRD has reached an agreement with View TV Group to transfer ownership of the radio station.

It emerged earlier this week that the station would close next month because it was not making an money.

But UKRD chief executive William Rogers told RadioToday that a number of people had come forward after the announcement with an interest in taking on the company.

He added: “We have been working incredibly hard over the last few days to try and make sure a sale took place which, as far as possible, secures the future of the station and those working there.

“Both the teams from UKRD and View TV have burned the midnight oil to get this done and I’m delighted that a deal has been secured.”

The View TV Group has formed a partnership with and radio operator and presenter, Darren Shortt, to run Star.
