Street lighting is to be added near a new bridge on the A1 after concerns about safety.
The lighting is to be included beside the bridge in Brompton-on-Swale, Highways England have confirmed.
North Yorkshire county councillor Carl Les said the issue about lighting arose when he was doing a regular survey of issues in the village.
The problem of the lack of lighting under the bridge was confirmed by the parish council.
He said: “I picked up that there were concerns that no lighting had been specified for the underneath of the new motorway bridge over Station Road.
“There were not lights there before, but the new bridge is twice the length of the old one so it`s much darker.”
Cllr Les said the route under the bridge was a well used footpath as it was on one of the routes to school.
He added: “I asked the road builders to look again at the specification, in conjunction with Richmondshire District Council who are responsible for footway lighting, and it appears I have been successful.”
