Support service launched to address homelessness in Richmondshire

A new support service to address homelessness across Richmondshire is to be created.

The district council is to enter into a partnership with North Yorkshire’s six other district and borough councils – and the county council – to deliver the service

The changes come after a budget review by the county council and will see Richmondshire District Council deliver homelessness support services under a five year partnership agreement.

The staff from Human Kind, which currently provides the service, will join the district council on October 1, 2019.

“The provision of support to homeless people both in temporary accommodation and within the wider community is essential,” said leader of the council, Councillor Angie Dale.

“This service helps keep homeless people living in their accommodation by providing assistance such as budget management and support with individual needs.

“The support staff will be integrated into our  Housing Options team which will result in a comprehensive in house service provided by the district council.”

The new arrangements – which see Richmondshire receiving a budget of £68,700 each year for five years – were approved by members of the council’s corporate board.

They come into force on October 1, 2019.
