Two suspected burglars have been arrested after police spent almost two hours searching.
North Yorkshire Police was called at about 8.30pm on Monday following reports of a burglary in progress at a property in Brompton-on-Swale.
Two suspects were seen leaving the area in a Vauxhall Insignia.
Officers attended the property and found it had been damaged before immediately beginning a search for those responsible.
A short time later, police received information that a Vauxhall had been involved in a collision with a stone pillar near Middleton Tyas.
The occupants of the vehicle were reported to have abandoned the car following the collision and fled from the scene.
Officers moved into the area and launched a large-scale search on foot, assisted by a police dog.
After almost two hours of searching the surrounding countryside, officers located two suspects shortly before 11pm and arrested them.
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of illegal drugs.
A woman, also in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of a bladed article.
Both remained in police custody while enquiries continued.
