Suspected drink driver arrested after report from member of public

Their car was also seized.

A suspected drink driver was arrested after police were alerted by a member of the public at the weekend.

Police say they received a report of a suspected drink driver in the Colburn area and the vehicle was quickly located by officers.

Inspector Martin Metcalfe, from Richmondshrie neighbourhood policing unit, said: “We stopped the vehicle near Catterick Racecourse and were shocked to see them produce a roadside reading of 97, when the maximum limit is 35.

“They were therefore arrested and now will face a court appearance, punishment and more than likely their name in the media.

“Unfortunately for them, they had not even bothered to insure the vehicle they were using, so that’s another one seized.”

The officer added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the person who contacted us, along with my team for responding promptly and also the CCTV Operator who tracked the vehicle for us.

“Quite often on social media I see people saying, ‘What is the point in reporting things as the police won’t do anything?’

“Well, I will be realistic as always and agree we will not get everyone, but if you report issues, we will have a fighting chance – as this example proves.”
