Swaledale Festival works with local brewery to produce new ale

Swaledale Festival has teamed up with the Yorkshire Dales Brewery in a bid to create the “taste of a Dales summer”.

A new beer has been launched that aims to celebrates both the vibrant local culture and the Swaledale Festival.

Brewed from American mosaic and centennial hops, Swaledale FestivAle is described as light and fruity in character, with refreshing hoppy notes, reflecting the fresh and natural character of the Yorkshire Dales.

Billed as “thirst-quenching and extremely drinkable”, it is hoped the pale ale, at 3.8% ABV, will become a firm favourite with locals and festivalgoers alike.

Malcolm Creese, festival director, said: “Yorkshire Dales Brewery produces a range of exceptional beers and it’s a real thrill to have one to celebrate our Festival.”

Swaledale FestivAle has been brewed by Anne and Rob at the Askrigg based Yorkshire Dales Brewery, especially for the Swaledale Festival.

Rob said: “It’s an eight-hour process to brew 1,440 pints or 20 casks of beer.”

Swaledale FestivAle will be available for a couple of weeks leading up to Swaledale Festival, and then for the festival fortnight itself.

The Bridge Inn at Grinton in Swaledale, as well as other local pubs, will sell the beer on draft, as will the Yorkshire Dales Brewery itself which has a brewery tap on site for pre-booked events.

Anne said: “We’re proud to support local charities and community events, and it’s wonderful to celebrate our relationship with the Swaledale Festival in this way.”

Swaledale Festival is a registered charity which has produced a fortnight of  music and art every year since the 1970s.

There are more than 60 events in this year’s festival, which takes place from May 25 May to June  8 across Swaledale, Wensleydale and Arkengarthdale.

World-class musicians will also visit 23 schools and 5 care homes in the area, inspiring and celebrating music amongst people aged 5 to 105.
