Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team comes to aid of walkers

Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team came to the aid of two walkers who got into difficulties in the Dales last night.

The team said the two “well-equipped walkers” had strayed on to steep ground in Gunnerside Gill in Swaledale.

A spokesperson said the pair were ‘located quickly, secured and then walked to safety”.

It has been a busy period for the volunteers who were called into action several times over the weekend following Storm Arwen.

Their rescues including several motorists who had got stuck in the snow on the Buttertubs Pass on Saturday night.

A baby was travelling one of the vehicles which got stuck.

The motorists were taken to Hawes were they had to find overnight accommodation as they were not local.
