EE has applied for planning permission to upgrade its mobile phone mast in Swaledale.
A planning application has been submitted to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority for changes to the telecommunications company’s mast at Grinton Lodge.
The upgrade would mean the mast can provide improved reception for EE users and 4G signal, the company said.
Two new cabinets would be installed and two antennas on the mast would be changed if the application was improved.
The application states that upgrading the existing mast was the only unfeasible option for better signal for customers without building a new base station in the area.
The application states: “The proposal now subject to this application seeks to upgrade the site to provide 4G services to the area in readiness for the preparation of supplying the next generation of emergency services network as well as providing 2G, 3G amd 4G to their public consumer customers.”

Swaledale is a vast area, which area’s will benefit.
I don’t think it will mean a much larger area is covered as the mast will be in the same place. My understanding is that it will just mean the people who do get a signal, will get a better signal!
