Talented young musicians invited to take part in Wensleydale Young Musician of the Year 2025

Joint Overall Winner of the 2024 Competition Jonty Ledbetter.

Young performers from across North Yorkshire are being invited to take part in the Wensleydale Young Musician of the Year 2025 competition, which takes place on Sunday 23 November at St Matthew’s Church, Leyburn, starting at 2pm.

The event, organised by BlueBoxt Creative and Performing Arts in partnership with the Wensleydale Rotary Club, forms part of the Rotary National Young Musician of the Year competition.

Open to young people aged 7 to 18 who live or attend school in North Yorkshire (or near the county boundary), the competition offers three classes, divided into two age groups — under 12, and 12 to 18.

  • Class 1: Acoustic instrumentalists or vocalists, accompanied by piano or unaccompanied

  • Class 2: Amplified instrumentalists or vocalists, accompanied by a backing track or unaccompanied

  • Class 3: Ensembles or groups of two or more performers, either acoustic or amplified

Wensleydale Rotary Club President, Paul Hardcastle, said: “This competition gives competitors valuable performance experience with excellent feedback from the adjudicator. The winner from this event goes forward to the Yorkshire Area competition, which then leads to the national final.”
