Taxi driver fits defibrillator in cab

A Catterick Garrison taxi driver has installed a defibrillator in his cab in case he comes across an emergency.

Former community first responder Spencer Franklin, who drives for Star Cars, took the decision after seeing taxis fitting the devices in Scotland.

Spencer said: “I have previously worked as a volunteer with Yorkshire Ambulance Service as a community first responder in Catterick Garrison and Colburn

“I saw an article on Facebook about a taxi service in Glasgow having defibrillators inside their taxis so with my knowledge of first aid I thought why can’t I do the same thing.”

Spencer said he would use the defib machine if a passenger became ill or he came across someone who had collapsed in the street.

He bought the device after receiving £750 in donations from supporters when he launched an online fundraising appeal.
