A Hudswell teenager has been accepted to study dance as part of a Government scheme to help talented youngsters develop a career in the industry.
Thirteen-year-old Olivia Richardson will attend the CAT Centre for Advanced Training at Dance City in Newcastle.
The course is part of a scheme launched by the Department for Education to help identify, and assist, young people with exceptional potential.
Olivia has been dancing with the Janet Seymour’s School of Theatre Dance in Reeth from the age of five and has studied ballet, tap and modern dance.
Olivia will start at Dance City in September and will continue to study with Janet Seymour.
She was was successful in gaining a place after completing an audition and interview.
The audition was sent in a video format instead of taking place at the school due to Covid-19.
Olivia was given a set routine piece to learn and then had to expand it with her own choreography.
The teenager said she aspired to be a contemporary ballet dancer and was also going to study GCSE dance at Richmond School.
Olivia has continued to dance through Lockdown via Zoom with Janet and has recently passed her Royal Academy of Dance Intermediate Foundation ballet exam with distinction.
