Two Year 9 pupils from Risedale School are organising a charity afternoon tea to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award challenge.
Olivia Bamber and Rosie Dobson, both aged 13, will host the event at Colburn Village Hall on Sunday, June 28, from 2pm to 4pm.
The pair said they chose Macmillan because of the support the charity provides to people affected by cancer and the difference it makes to families and communities.
In a joint statement, they said: “We have chosen to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support because they do incredible work helping people affected by cancer, providing care, guidance and support when it is needed most.”
Tickets for the afternoon tea are available from the girls or through the village hall during café opening hours.
As well as refreshments, the event will include a raffle and tombola, and the organisers are appealing to local businesses to donate prizes.
They said any support would be “very gratefully received”, with donations able to be dropped off at the village hall or collected by arrangement.
For those unable to attend, the girls have also launched a JustGiving page to help boost fundraising efforts.
Olivia and Rosie are hoping the community will rally behind the event and help them raise as much money as possible for the charity.
They added: “Every little bit of help is truly appreciated.”
