The Station Singers to perform at Richmond church

Members of a Richmondshire choir who rehearse in a cinema are hoping to break box office records when they perform their next charity show.

On Saturday 8th April, The Station Singers will perform their annual spring charity concert in St Mary’s Church, Richmond.

This year’s beneficiaries will be Herriot Hospice Homecare and St Teresa’s Hospice, and the Choir is hoping to deliver an ‘Oscar’ worthy performance.

The Station Singers have been busy preparing for the concert, which will feature songs from around the world, including everything from classical music to rock.

Such is the popularity, there are three separate, but aptly named, sections of The Station Singers– Platform One, Platform Two and The Branch Line.

People in the Platform One and Two choirs practise each week in one of the cinemas at The Station, whilst The Branch Line rehearse in Richmond Town Hall. Each choir member is given a distinctive purple folder with their music in it.

The Station Singers’ Musical Director Carol Gedye said: “We have around 150 members so it’s easier to rehearse in groups, then come together for concerts.

“The Station is a great venue in which to meet and rehearse, and the Town Hall is welcoming and is kind to our voices, but it’s fantastic when we perform as one group in the fabulous acoustic venue of St Mary’s.

“We are all really looking forward to the concert on the 8th April and are hoping that it will be a 300 sell-out so we can raise as much money as possible for two very worthwhile local charities.”

Alexandra Weighell, Fundraising Manager at Herriot Hospice Homecare, said: “We are delighted and honoured that The Station Singers have chosen us as one of the beneficiaries of their spring concert.

“I had the privilege of listening to a little bit of their rehearsal and based on that, people who come on the evening are in for a real treat.”

The ‘Songs Around the World’ concert will start at 7.30pm on the 8th, with doors opening at 7pm. Tickets are priced £8 if bought in advance and £10 if purchased on the door. Children are free but still require a ticket.

Tickets can be purchased from Castle Hill Bookshop, Richmond; St Teresa’s Hospice shop, Richmond; Herriot Hospice Homecare’s shop in Northallerton; St Mary’s Church; The Wives Kitchen, Richmond; King Street Kitchen and Gift Shop, Richmond. Choir members are also selling tickets.
