Around 100 cars will compete in a new closed-road rally set to take place in the Yorkshire Dales later this month.

The Swift Signs & Shirts Yorkshire Dales Rally, run by the Northallerton Automobile Club, will be held on Sunday, March 29.

A ceremonial start will be held in Leyburn town centre before competitors tacklea loop of four closed-road stages, which will be run twice during the day.

Drivers will complete the first four stages in the morning before returning to Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn for servicing, ahead of repeating the same stages in the afternoon.

Local crews, as well as competitors travelling from across the UK, will take part in the event.

A spokesperson said: “Experience the raw thrill of British rallying at the Yorkshire Dales Rally, where high‑performance cars charge through some of the most spectacular countryside in the UK.

“Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales, this iconic event delivers heart‑pounding action as top crews tackle fast, technical stages, echoing engines and flying gravel across stunning moorland roads.

“With incredible viewing spots, a buzzing rally atmosphere, and the chance to get up close to the cars and drivers, it’s an unforgettable day out for motorsport fans and families alike. If you love speed, skill and scenery, the Yorkshire Dales Rally is a must‑see event.”

The event will operate under a Motor Sport UK permit, along with a Motor Race Order and Traffic Regulation Order.

Several roads will be closed to traffic throughout the day while the stages are in operation.

Castle Bolton Road will close from 7am until 5.30pm, Surrender Road from 7.20am until 5.40pm, Whitaside Road from 7.40am until 6pm, and Semer Water Road from 8.40am until 6.30pm.

Organisers have warned that when stage roads are closed it is an offence to use, walk or cross them without permission from senior event officials.

Dedicated spectator areas will be in place for those wishing to watch the rally, and residents living along the closed-road sections have already been contacted by organisers.

Tickets for the spectator areas cost £10 per car.

One good thing may come out of this is that North Yorkshire Council will have been payed a large sum of money for letting the motor club close these roads for all day.

I wonder if they will spend the money back on repairing these roads the rally is using or just waist it on someone silly?

When motor clubs have rallies on forestry closed roads, the money they receive is very often use to repair the roads they have used.

We can only live in hopes.

An offence to use public roads but not an offence to cause a huge amount of pollution and make a massive contribute to global heating!
