Theatre performer to run four major races for MNDA – starting in pantomime dame costume

A Richmond theatre performer has begun four gruelling endurance challenges for charity — with the first undertaken in full pantomime dame costume.

John Holliday, a local representative for the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) and a runner for Team Caterpillar, started his Miles for MNDA campaign at the Middlesbrough Half Marathon at the weekend.

It was the first of four major challenges in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Later this spring he is due to tackle the London Marathon, followed by The Sting Backyard Ultra and The Wall – a 70-mile trail ultra marathon – across the spring and summer months.

John said the fundraising effort is deeply personal.

“Being able to challenge myself is a huge privilege and a reminder of my past and present friends who have lost their battle or are still battling with this disease – all of whom would love to be able to take on the challenges I am facing,” he said.

Having organised numerous fundraisers in the past, he said the opportunity to push himself physically felt like the right next step.

“Having done numerous fundraisers before, the opportunity to test myself was a great opportunity and each one brings its own challenge.”

All money raised through the Miles for MNDA challenge will go directly towards research and efforts to find a cure for motor neurone disease.
