Thieves raid Arthur Caygill Cycles

The family behind the popular Arthur Caygill Cycles shop say they are heartbroken after thieves raided the premises last night.

A number of high-value bikes were taken in the raid.

Police have appealed for information following the break-in which they believe occurred between 10.30pm and 11.30pm last night.

Police want to identify a black transporter vehicle seen in the area.

Local businesses have been urged to review CCTV footage for the vehicle which left via Green Howards Road.

The Caygill family said on their Facebook page: “My heart breaks, the shop my dad set up has been broken into and it’s been a horrific night, they have taken a lot of expensive e bikes and mountain bikes.”

They added: “I and family are absolutely devastated this has happened to us.

“If anyone is wanting anything today we are open but please bare with us while we clear the mess.”

Anyone with information is asked to speak to PCSO Connor Mattison at North Yorkshire Police on 101 or contact him by emailing connor.mattison@northyorkshire.police.uk

  1. I wonder why the contact for what seems a significant crime is a PCSO? I really hope this investigation is being led by an experienced police officer. On the face of it, this does not instill confidence in local policing.

    • Years ago the local town police who lived in Richmond and knew what was going on would have arrested and charged those responsible by now. There were no PCSOs, only properly trained constables.

  2. I thought there was cameras on the entrance to the estate. Do they not work??
This is the second time within a month or so, why is there no police presence or security service patrolling the area.
