Tickets on sale for Leyburn Jazz Festival

Emma Fisk.

The names Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine resound with all music lovers, whether they prefer jazz or classical, and their daughter Jacqui Dankworth is singing at this year’s Leyburn Jazz Festival.

Though Johnny has passed away, they remain British jazz royalty: Jacqui’s MBE in 2019 added another award to the family’s extraordinary collection, and Jacqui’s encounters with a wide range of musicians including Frank Sinatra and Stephen Sondheim, is reflected in the music she sings.

She moves easily between genres, drawing on soul, classical, jazz and blues, working with major artists in every category.

Her concert in Tennants on October 21st is the exciting climax of a Leyburn Festival programme full of established artists and interesting newcomers. Paul Edis is composer in residence; Tony Kofi, Hot Club du Nord and many more. Local performers also play a big part, with the Leyburn Jazz Collective, the Wensleydale Gospel Choir and the Neos String Quartet. Local Friends and Business Friends are generously supporting the Festival.

Full details, tickets and contacts are on the festival website, www.leyburnjazz.co.uk.

Tickets also available in person from Leyburn Arts & Community Centre and Tennants Garden Rooms.

The festival runs from October 19 to 22.
