A charity concert in Leyburn at the weekend raised more than £7,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

Steve Harley’s Acoustic Trio drew nearly 400 people from all over the north of England to the Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn, for the second major fundraiser at the venue organised by Tippy Watson of Askrigg.

The concert was originally scheduled for February but had to be cancelled when Steve broke his hip, but he was back on form for his two-and-a-half hour stint for the charity.
The story continues after the adverts. . .

It raised a total of £7,044 which included a £1,000 donation from a fan of Steve’s in the south as a dedication to his wife.

“People’s generosity is amazing,” said Tippy who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer 18 months ago.

Since then she has pledged to raise £50,000 through a variety of initiatives, including a dales calendar, hand-made photo cards, a royal wedding brunch and a number of concerts.

“I am particularly pleased with the amount as it tips me over the £40,000 mark towards my target and I am now starting to think it is actually achievable,” she added.

Karl Walsh and the Happy Future from Manchester did a half hour warm up set before the trio took to the stage, with the audience ended up dancing in the aisles by the time the finale was reached.

The next events in Tippy’s BCC calendar include a comedy night in Hawes on Friday, June 29 (tickets from www.buytickets.at/hawescomedy), an Askrigg art expo, Kid Creole and the Coconuts and a gospel choir, dates yet to be announced.

Tippy’s Facebook page is @Dales Events and the Breast Cancer Care helpline can be reached on 0808 800 6000, Monday to Friday 9am-4pm, and Saturday 9am-1pm.
