Top soul singers head to Leyburn for fun-packed charity night

International soul star, Mica Paris, will perform in Leyburn for Breast Cancer Care charity

Just two weeks after appearing at the opening gala night of the London Jazz Festival at the Royal Festival Hall in November, international soul singer Mica Paris will be heading north – to Tennants Garden Rooms in Leyburn.

Mica, with three times Grammy-nominated fellow soul star, Jaki Graham, will perform live at The Soul Lounge, an evening of top-class entertainment in aid of Breast Cancer Care, on Friday, November 24.

The evening will also feature DJ Fast, a founder of the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, and Joe Corrigan, widely regarded as one of the finest swing singers and song stylists of the day.

Put together by Anita Watson of Incredible Artists who herself is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, the unique “lounge party” will have top-class food, fireworks, an auction, raffle and a free glass of bubbly for all to start the proceedings.

“These are international performers who I have worked with professionally and who have become friends, too. They are giving their time and talents free for this amazing charity that has helped me and thousands more like me. I want to raise money and raise awareness and can think of no better way to do it than with a fabulous, fun-packed party,” says Anita.

It will not, she says, be anything like the standard “charity ball,” with formal dining followed by dancing, but rather a lounge party, with the atmosphere of an intimate club. Mica and Jaki will sing soul numbers while guests gather round tables for ten, six or four, or in the special VIP sofa pods arranged around the dance floor.

Food will be served in small, individual, bowls throughout.

“It will be substantial” promises Anita, but it won’t be a formal, sit-down dinner.

Tennants will provide the auctioneer, and up for bidding will be ten tickets for the Six Nations England/Wales game at Twickenham, a curry masterclass for eight people with a chef at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham, including accommodation, a grouse shoot and an Eddie Jordan watch – so far. There will also be a chance to win a diamond bracelet.

“People have been so generous and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a superb facility in the Garden Rooms. It’s going to be a fantastic evening for everyone and with every penny raised going to Breast Cancer Care,” says Anita.

The party starts at 7pm and continues until 1am. Tickets are £49 each and, with cabaret seating, there is no need to buy a table. There are a limited number of VIP sofa pods at £600 for 10. Book through The Garden Rooms reception, 01969 621146, or online at . A coach will go from Hawes, picking up in Bainbridge, Askrigg, Carperby and Redmire on the way, at an extra cost and bookable online.
