Richmondshire tourism businesses are being urged to get involved in a project to put the district on the European map.

The district council is promoting the Visit England initiative to increase the number of German visitors to the East of England through a new 300-mile touring route.

The Explorers Road follows the A1 from London into Northumberland, with all places surrounding the Great North Road included.

The touring route will feature English market towns and villages that are off the beaten track, where you can find icons of English culture – a pint in the pub, afternoon team, local stories and traditions.

Added to this are gardens, stately homes, castles and the countryside, combined with some of the better known historic cities and major cities that offer a good helping of shopping and sight-seeing.

The project is looking to include tourist attractions, accommodation providers, restaurants and pubs within a 30 mile radius of the A1.

Interested businesses should contact Angela Tait at or 07961022473 before the end of November.
