Tribute to Wensleydale woman killed in crash on A66

The family of a Wensleydale woman who died following a road traffic collision on the A66 near Warcop on Sunday have paid tribute to her.

Rosemary Sharples, 68, from Sedbusk, near Hawes, died when her car was involved in a collision with another car and a goods vehicle.

“We would all like to thank everyone for their kindness over the last couple of days it has meant the world to us and kept us going through the most difficult time.

Her family have said in a statement issued today: “We are at a total loss for words as to what has happened to our wonderful wife, mum, grandma, sister and aunty.

“She had a heart of gold and lived for her family.  She was loved by everyone she met and had time for us all.  Mum has left a huge hole in our lives that can never ever be replaced.

“We would all like to thank everyone for their kindness over the last couple of days it has meant the world to us and kept us going through the most difficult time.

“We would also like to thank the emergency services who cared for her in her final moments and the ongoing support we are receiving.”

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said on Sunday: “The driver of one of the cars died at the scene after being released from the vehicle by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.

“The driver of the other car was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by ambulance, their condition is described as stable.

“Police officers travelled from the scene to North Yorkshire to inform relatives of the deceased.”

The collision happened at around 4pm on the A66 at Warcop.
