Tunstall teenager Josh Coburn scored for Middlesbrough on his home debut on Saturday.

The 18-year-old got the second in Boro’s 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

It was the former Richmond School pupil’s first appearance at the Riverside for the Championship team after previously coming off the bench in the away win against Rotherham last Wednesday.

Josh came on as a substitute in the 65th minute and scored a header in off the post from a corner.

The teenager, who only signed a pro contract with Boro in January, said the goal was “what dreams are made of”.

He told BBC Tees after the game: “It’s a very proud moment. I’ve got to thank the gaffer for it.

“To come on and score for Middlesbrough’s first team is just amazing – it’s what dreams are made of.

“I tried a little movement to get the defender out of the way. It’s something we’ve been working on in training. The gaffer and Ronnie and Blacky have been telling me to work on my movement.

“And that’s where the goal came from – being able to move the defender and make space for the header.

“I knew I had to try and get a bit more pace on the ball from the cross, so I tried to head it down to skid off the turf. I did think it was going to come back out off the post, but thankfully it went in.

“It is a bit of a blur. I remember running towards the corner flag.

“But then everyone arrives and is around me and I can’t even describe what the feeling was.

“It was just amazing.”

The striker was given a coveted place at Middlesbrough’s academy in September 2019 after playing for Sunderland at U16 level.
