Unicorn held by Askrigg with Catterick Garrison drawing with Spennithorne

Unicorn’s 100 per cent win record came to an end on Saturday with Askrigg — a team which had lost all four of their previous league games this season — the unlikely party poopers.

The Richmond pub team took the lead with a header by Joe Lamb. Richard Sunter pulled a goal back for Askrigg after the break, but efforts from Bailey Proudlock, who took advantage of an Alan Middleton slip on the halfway line, and Gus Glass gave Unicorn the lead going into the last quarter.

Sunter then got a second before Alan Middleton netted to level the scores and secure a memorable result for the village team.

Catterick Garrison started the day second and might have hoped to take advantage of Unicorn’s slip to narrow the gap, but they were held 2-2 by Spennithorne.

Two goals from Neil Wright gave Catterick a solid lead at the break, but Spenni came fighting back in the second half.

Charlie Shaw volleyed in to pull a goal back after 60 minutes with Luke Circo netting in the final minute to ensure a share of the points for the Wensleydale team.

Hawes moved up to second with a 9-1 win away at Reeth.

The visitors started slowly but took the lead through a Brett Calvert header from a Tommy Calvert corner.

Macauley Acton had a tap in from a Dan Richardson cross to make it 2-0 before Brett Calvert got his second.

Tommy Calvert then made it four before Ryan Alderson netted twice.

Charlie Lancaster then got his first for the club with a back post tap in.

Reeth pulled a goal back after 80 minutes through Jamie Stallard but then gave away an own goal shortly afterwards.

The final goal was scored by Brett Calvert who scored a thunderbolt from inside his own half.

Elsewhere, Leyburn won the battle of the new teams beating Richmond Town Academy 5-4.

Two first half goals from Will Hewson and one from George Catterall for Leyburn and goals from Oliver Wright and Zak Cleminson for Reeth meant it was 3-3 at half time.

A bullet header from youngster Kieran Hawes and another for Catterall gave the Wensleydale team some breathing space, but Finley Tulip netted for Academy to ensure a nervy finish for Leyburn.
